Staying at Hedgfield House and planning on visiting Newcastle?

Then why not pay the Great North Museum a visit?

Situated on the outskirts of Newcastle City Centre its a great day out for both young and old and the best thing about it is its all FREE.

The Museum itself brings together collections from a selection of museums and Galleries including the Shefton Museum, Newcastle University’s Museum of Antiquities, and last but not least the Hatton Gallery.

One of the most popular exhibits is the large-scale, interactive model of Hadrian’s Wall. There are also magnificent displays showing the wonder and diversity of both the plant and animal kingdoms, rare and spectacular objects from the Ancient Greeks along with an ancient mummy from Egypt.

The museum isn’t just about the ancient past, they have a Living Planet display housing hundreds of creatures, which by using a mix of touch-screen technology and hands-on investigations you can discover and learn everything you need to know. All the information is there to allow you to investigate these animals and find out how they live, where they live and how they manage to survive in extreme environments all over the world.

They also have live animal tanks and aquaria on display where visitors can see all types of weird and wonderful fish, snakes and various other reptiles.

Star attractions include live animal displays, the breathtaking full size model of an elephant, a virtual aquarium, a great white shark and a T-Rex model.

The museum really is a great day out and well worth a visit, especially if you have children but its equally interesting for adults and did we mention its FREE?
